Ultra’s South African chapter splits across two cities, and the Johannesburg leg is the louder, harder one. The bill leans on big-room and progressive house headliners alongside a deep local roster that reflects how dominant amapiano and South African house have become globally, with Major League DJz, Sun-El Musician, DBN Gogo, Shimza and Dlala Thukzin all on the schedule. International names like Afrojack, Axwell, John Summit and DJ Snake fill the late-night slots. The result is a festival that feels less like an imported brand and more like a meeting point between the global EDM circuit and the sound currently coming out of the country’s clubs.
