Playing the bağlama (saz), Ata Canani pioneered German-language Turkish rock ’n’ roll in the late 1970s and continues to merge both sonic and social worlds. His songs are full of humanism, personal experiences, and historical explorations dealing, for example, with the harsh living conditions faced by Turkish »guest workers« 50 years ago, or human rights violations such as the Sivas massacre of 1993. Still, he invites us to share his hope for a better future for all, starting here and now: with dance.
