Before Akua Naru became known for her blend of hip-hop, soul, and spoken word, she was writing poems in church communities and performing at neighbourhood parties in Connecticut. After years travelling through Asia, West Africa, and Europe, that sense of movement still lives inside her music. Jazz, gospel, political thought, and Black oral traditions flow together into songs that are both deeply grounded and constantly searching.
