This band, centered around the British brother duo George (drums, electronics) and Jack Barnett (all other instruments), has apparently had only one goal from the very beginning: to make music that defies all common genre categories. Post-punk and classical, electronics and experimental sounds come together as if they had always belonged together. Equally hypermodern and timeless is the sound on their albums, of which there have been only five in nearly 20 years. For each one, they invite a few exciting guests; on the most recent, ‘Crooked Wing,’ this included former Chairlift frontwoman Caroline Polachek and jazz bassist Cris Laurence.
