The New Old_Experiment 3 Once upon a time, in the distant future, humans—or Europeans—traveled to faraway places to see how far they could go, but above all, to see what they could plunder. Today, 500 years later, explorers have other ideas. We send Golden Records into space and greet the aliens they contain. We’ve learned our lesson. We no longer want to travel from the Canary Islands to “America,” but from the Moon to Mars. In “The New Old,” we navigate through historical and technological eras. We use imaging devices to navigate between the present and the past, between the analog and the digital—projectors and live camera feeds. In an interactive performance between artist, devices, and audience, incorporating philosophies that enable other fruitful encounters.
