About this set

The Nakibembe Embaire Troupe uses its »Embaire«—an instrument resembling a giant wooden xylophone played by several musicians simultaneously—to create hypnotic compositions featuring polyrhythms, percussive melodies, vocals, and driving grooves. For their performances, the Ugandan group requires a specific acoustic setup: The Embaire is traditionally played over a pit, which serves as a natural resonating chamber and amplifies the instrument’s characteristic sound. The musicians will therefore dig a deep pit on Sunday before their performance at Neuland in order to play the instrument there in the traditional manner. Embarking this experience, you will witness an ecstatic, trance-like moment brimming with the energy of human collaboration.
